“We do not have a commercial partnership with Amazon”

Primark urges shoppers not to buy its products from Amazon after prices of many are inflated on site.

Primark is urging its shoppers not to buy its products from Amazon after it was found that many – notably licensed lines – are being sold on the site for inflated prices.

The fast fashion retailer issued a statement earlier this week which unequivocally said that it did “not have a commercial partnership with Amazon”, reported The Industry.Fashion.

The statement continued: “Any Primark products which appear on the site are being re-sold by third parties, at higher prices. We encourage our customers to visit us in our stores to find the best value.”

Primark licensed products – such as homeware and nightwear – for brands including Harry Potter and Friends have appeared on Amazon from third party sellers.

The Industry.Fashion reported that a Harry Potter backpack was being sold for £21.40, while it is priced at £12 in-store, while a pair of Friends slippers was selling for almost three times the £5 in-store price on Amazon.

Primark’s bricks and mortar stance, along with its experiential in-store environments – including Harry Potter and Disney activations – has made it one of the more robust performers on the high street this year.

Back in April it nixed rumours that it was to introduce a click and collect service saying there were no plans ‘in the near future’ to trial online shopping.
