Passport warning for UK Surtex and Expo travellers

UK industry urged to check passports after new travel rules to the US emerge.

UK industry execs travelling to Surtex and Licensing Expo should check their passports, after new rules were introduced by the US government.

The national media widely covered the news over the weekend that those travelling on old-style passports would be turned away from the US.

Visitors travelling to the US from a Visa Waiver Programme country – including the UK – need to have a passport which includes an embedded electronic chip.

The new rules follow a security clampdown amid terrorism concerns and came into force on April 1.

E-passports were introduced in October 2006. However, Sky News Online said it was thought that over three million Britons could be caught up in the change.
