Colin Lisle takes on epic cycle challenge for charity

Popular toy industry veteran Colin Lisle is set to cycle more than 230 miles around Cuba later this year to raise funds for the toy trade’s charity the Fence Club.

Admittedly “not a fan” of bike rides, Colin will spend five consecutive days in the saddle in the Cuban heat (average daily high of 28°C) cycling across the largest island in the Caribbean, covering a total distance of around 380km.

For more than five decades Colin has supported the toy industry’s Fence Club, known for its annual fundraising efforts for sick and disadvantaged children around the UK.

Colin said: “I wanted to do something that would really test me, and do it for the fabulous Fence Club. When I take part in the challenge later this year I’ll be 73 years old. It won’t be easy, so I’ve given myself a full year of training to build up my stamina and levels of fitness.”

Colin’s ambitious bike ride begins in Cuba’s cultural capital, Havana, and ends five days later in the city of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The route he will be following is graded as ‘challenging’, with an average of eight hours cycling up to 100km over five consecutive days, and includes a number of steep hills, rocky terrain and main roads.

Colin welcomes any support from his industry peers and colleagues. To donate to his Just Giving page, simply click on this link.
