Art + Science to represent Breakdown Plastic

Agency representing exclusive technology in all categories outside of the US.

Art + Science International has been appointed by Breakdown Plastic to represent its exclusive technology across all categories in all markets outside of the US.

Breakdown Plastic is the pioneer of an exciting new technology breakthrough that can naturally decompose plastic in a matter of a few years instead of 500 centuries.

Approximately 80-90% of the world’s plastic still ends up in landfill, with 75% of the plastic produced in the US thrown away. This accounts for 44 million cubic yards of landfill space. Recycling and returns schemes are important, but with plastic production rising so quickly, recycling cannot keep up.

Breakdown Plastic or BDP is an organic additive that is introduced to the plastic manufacturing process that enhances the biodegradation of plastic, rubber or foam products in an anaerobic, biologically active landfill.

Partners already signed up to BDP include Matrix and Pacific Coffee, with other global manufacturers and retailers to be announced shortly.

Peter Rooke, md of Art + Science, commented: “The timing is right to bring this technology to the forefront of all manufacturing and retail companies using plastics.

“The statistics speak for themselves: 600 billion lbs of plastic was produced in 2012, of which less than 5% was recovered. 50% of the plastic we use, we use just once and it is thrown away. A study done by the UN found that land-based sources account for up to 80% of the world’s marine pollution.

“If this plastic was naturally decomposing in landfills, it would lessen the chance of it ending up in our oceans. Many companies now have major CSR programmes and we are looking forward to working with everyone to solve this global issue.”

Peter added: “We are excited to be working with the team at BDP to bring this technology to many more partners across all industry sectors.”
