Sir Paul McCartney kicks off centenary celebrations for Rupert Bear

Remastered version of We All Stand Together due for release on limited edition specially shaped 7″ picture disc.

In celebration of Rupert Bear’s 100th anniversary, Universal Brand Development (UK) has partnered with Sir Paul McCartney to launch a remastered version of his 1984 Rupert-inspired song and animated film.

The remastered version of We All Stand Together by Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus is due to release on limited edition specially shaped 7″ picture disc on November 6, 2020.

In addition, a fully restored Rupert and The Frog Song animated film will also premiere on YouTube. The short animated film was originally released in 1984 and saw Paul voice the character of Rupert. It also featured the voices of British TV icons June Whitfield (as Rupert’s mother) and Windsor Davies (Father Frog).

Released simultaneously with We All Stand Together, the film went on to become the biggest selling video of 1985 in the UK, earning Paul a Grammy nomination, as well as seeing him win an Ivor Novello Award for Best Film Soundtrack and picking up a BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film.

News of the new partnership has resulted in double page spreads in the Daily Star and the Daily Express among others, while it was also shared across Paul’s personal Instagram and Twitter accounts.

“We are thrilled and honoured to be working with Sir Paul McCartney on this fabulous re-release of a true classic song, kicking off the centenary celebrations,” Paul Bufton, vp consumer products EMEA at NBC Universal Brand Development, told Source. “With further partnerships from The Royal Mail, Egmont, Rainbow Designs and Carousel, 2020 is really Rupert’s year.”
