Latest ABCs show strength in children’s market

Egmont, Redan, Immediate all publish strong figures for January to June period.

The latest set of ABC figures have been published, and children’s magazines are continuing to hold their own on retail shelves – with stand out performances from Redan Publishing and Egmont.

Redan reported that its multi-character children’s magazines all increased their circulation in the past six months.

Fun to Learn Friends is up to 49,145 (up 19.05% on the previous period), while Fun to Learn Favourites jumped to 35,992 (up 15.16%).

In addition, Sparkle World grew over 20% to 56,265, making it the best selling multi-character title for primary girls and putting it in the number two position in the primary girls sector.

Redan is also celebrating the continued success of its Peppa Pig titles.

Fun to Learn Peppa Pig Bag-O-Fun posted an ABC of 72,973, while Fun to Learn Peppa Pig stood at 71,938 – this meant the titles were are number one and two respectively in the preschool chart.

Meanwhile, Egmont Publishing saw strong sales for its LEGO Star Wars magazine, which was launched in July 2015.

The title posted an ABC of 80,012 for January to June 2016, up almost 38% period on period.

Egmont also enjoyed a strong set of ABC results with significant year on year and period on period increases for the pre-teen own brand titles, Toxic and Go Girl, as well as a strong period on period uplift for Disney Princess magazine.

Disney Frozen continues to have the highest ABC figure in the children’s market at 84,021.

Cally Poplak, md of Egmont Publishing UK said: “The children’s sector of the UK magazine market continues to thrive and we know from our research that parents value the physicality and the package printed magazines offer. They appreciate how they offer time away from screens and enable them to spend time doing activities and reading with their children.”

Elsewhere, Immediate Media posted a healthy figure of 58,353 for CBeebies Magazine.

Moving into the slightly older age group, and BBC Top Gear Magazine saw a drop in circulation to 114,973 for the period (including print and digital).
