“Angry Birds Movie has changed us forever”

Brand has been reignited “in a big way”, Rovio’s Alex Lambeek tells The Source.

Rovio’s chief commercial officer, Alex Lambeek has told The Source that the Angry Birds Movie has “changed us forever”.

Speaking at Licensing Expo, Alex said that the successful launch of the movie has meant that Rovio has moved from publishing apps in 2009 to “really getting into the storytelling business”.

The Angry Birds Movie has made around $330million at the global box office. It has enjoyed particular success in China, where it has been given an extension on its box office run.

Alex said that it means Rovio is now a franchise business, boasting movies, consumer products, publishing, animation and its Toons TV platform among others.

“This has set us up to continue to very heavily invest in future content,” Alex told The Source.

The success of the movie has meant the brand has been “reignited in a big way” said Alex.

The way is now open for a sequel to the movie, while the popular Hatchling characters have potential for a spin off licensing programme.
