Now Thunderbirds takes starring Halifax role

Parker and Lady Penelope follow in the footsteps of Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones.

Parker and Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds have become the latest classic characters to star in a TV campaign for the Halifax.

The company has built up something of a reputation for using licensed characters in its campaigns – it has previously featured Scooby-Doo, Top Cat and The Flintstones.

In the latest ad – which debuted on Saturday night during Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway – butler Parker is seen winning the top prize of £500,000 in the Halifax Savers Prize Draw Superdraw.

As well as the TV spot, the characters will feature in branch, on outdoor posters and in online ads.

In addition, other characters – including Brains – will appear on social media.

There will also be an experiential game touring UK shopping centres, according to Campaign.

Trudi Hayward, svp head of global merchandising for ITV Studios Global Entertainment, said: “Thunderbirds remains a popular and celebrated series that continues to live on in our cultural consciousness.

“We are thrilled to partner with Halifax to bring Lady Penelope and Parker – two iconic and much-loved characters – to TV screens yet again. Fans will recognise Parker’s wonderful dry wit, whilst new audiences will no doubt instantly warm to the pair and the unique relationship that they share.”

Catherine Kehoe, md group brands and marketing at Halifax, added: “We’ve had such a fantastic response to the Halifax campaign and who better than Parker and Lady Penelope to once again demonstrate that whoever walks through our door, they’ll get the same warm welcome, excellent service and that little bit extra.”
