Paddington Bear mixes with royalty at charity event

Huge swathe of media coverage generated by meeting with Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Paddington Bear found himself on the front pages of the newspapers yesterday following a meeting with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry at a special charity event.

And the cheeky bear even managed to persuade Kate to enjoy a dance during the event at Paddington Station on Monday (October 16).

The event was hosted by StudioCanal – with support from BAFTA through its BAFTA Kids programme – for the young beneficiaries of Their Royal Highnesses’ Charities Forum.

Guests were welcomed into Paddington Station by Paddington Bear himself – whose appearance was managed by Rainbow Productions – and a calypso band featured in the forthcoming Paddington 2, before they embarked on a special trip aboard Belmond British Pullman train, which appears in the film.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry spent time meeting the young guests on board the 1920s and 30s vintage carriages, before waving them off for a journey through the English countryside.

On board the train, guests were treated to a Paddington-themed afternoon tea as well as a variety of activities, devised by BAFTA and led by children’s television presenters including decorating their own mini suitcases and luggage labels, and writing postcards to Paddington’s beloved Aunt Lucy.

Members of the cast and crew were also present at the event including producer David Heyman, co-writer Simon Farnaby and actors Hugh Bonneville, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin.

Karen Jankel, the daughter of the late Michael Bond also attended.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a raft of media coverage followed the event with pieces on BBC News and in the Telegraph online, Evening Standard, Hello, Daily Express online, Daily Mail, People.com, Metro, Daily Star, Elle, Daily Mirror, US Weekly, Harpers Bazaar, OK and AOL.
