Historic Royal Palaces teams with The Royal Mint

First licensed coin collection themed around the Tower of London launches.

Historic Royal Palaces has partnered with The Royal Mint for the first time to produce a collection of coins themed around the Tower of London.

The first coin in the series – which was released on December 3 – features one of the Tower’s famous ravens.

A further three coins have also been produced in the Tower series: the Crown Jewels, the Yeoman Warders (or ‘Beefeaters’) and the historic Ceremony of the Keys. All are due to be released throughout 2019.

Each coin design is available in seven specifications, ranging from a brilliant uncirculated £5 denomination through to silver and gold Proof varieties and is available directly through Historic Royal Palaces online shop.

“It has been a pleasure to work with the incredible design and development team at The Royal Mint,” said Emma Saunders, head of business development at Historic Royal Palaces. After meeting for the first time at Brand Licensing Europe last year, and exploring the stories connected to our wealth of shared history, we have developed a beautiful collection.

“We have really enjoyed working with The Royal Mint on such a fruitful endeavour and showcasing this stunning collection; drawing not only on our curatorial experts and Yeoman Warders but also the unique setting of the Tower to truly ensure we maximise our licensing partnership. We look forward to working with them going forward.”

Nicola Howell, director of consumer coin at The Royal Mint, added: “Everyone remembers the Tower of London, the grisly goings-on that we learn about at school, or exciting trips there to find out more about the past and see the Crown Jewels.

“The Tower contains so much British history – including that of The Royal Mint – that we had to mark this with a collection. We hope everyone enjoys finding out more about the myths and legends of the Tower; we certainly did.”
