Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

Maurizio Distefano Licensing has begun its partnership with Global Merchandising Services, adding some key music artists to its roster, as well as the Gordon Ramsay brand. MDL now represents a roster of artists for the Italian market including Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Backstreet Boys, Little Mix and Louis Tomlinson among others. “This partnership enriches our portfolio and allows us to access another inspirational branch of the licensing world which, even at this early stage, has attracted many potential licensees,” commented Maurizio Distefano, ceo of MDL.

Mattel has launched a new Matchbox toy line which pays homage to the most iconic car manufacturers in Europe across the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Russia. Merchantwise Licensing has been appointed as the Australian and New Zealand licensing agent for preschool brand, Kiri and Lou. Already in active development are product categories including toys and apparel.

In addition, the agency has also closed deals with retailers in Europe such as Carrefour, Alcampo and El Corte Inglés which have launched collections featuring the character brand. Mafalda shirts and sweaters were among the best sellers at Pull&Bear in March.

9 Story Media Group and Karma’s World Entertainment have secured a publishing deal with Scholastic for Karma’s World, a new CG animated series which is currently in production for Netflix.
