News extra: More licensing news from this week

Including McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion secured for Rubik’s Cube.

The Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

The Smiley Company – in its role as master licensee for Rubik’s Cube – has secured a Happy Meal promotion with McDonald’s. In a deal brokered by The Marketing Store, the multi-territory promotion will appear in restaurants across Europe, Scandinavia, Middle East, Africa and North America. It will launch first in France this month, before rolling out across other territories from August through to November including Italy, Spain, Austria, UAE and Canada among others. Children will have a choice of four different bespoke Rubik’s Cube toys. In addition, the promotion will also feature a product mash-up between Rubik’s and a major Hollywood animation film studio’s properties appearing on the toys, alongside the Rubik’s Cube colours and trademark twist and turn mechanism.

Mondo TV has revealed a number of broadcast and licensing agreements in Spain and Portugal for Robot Trains. Broadcast highlights include Clan TVE in Spain, following hot on the heels of the June launch of the show on Portugal’s children’s cable and satellite channel, Canal Panda. In terms of licensing, in Spain, Panini is already signed to launch a sticker album in January 2019; Comansi will launch figurines; and Gedis has 3D figurines for kiosks. Bizak is distributing the toy range in Spain on behalf of master toy licensee, Silverlit. A Q4 bed linen deal is also planned for Portugal, along with an announcement of a partner for live events.

German media companies Studio 100 Media-m4e are teaming with MBC Group to bring Wissper to MENA territories. The multi-platform deal comprises TV, digital media and consumer products rights for the CGI preschool series.

Endemol Shine Group has appointed agent Block 12 to oversee licensing opportunities for Simon’s Cat in China. The multi-year deal will see Block 12 explore categories including toys, FMCG, apparel and publishing in the region. It will also manage the Simon’s Cat social media accounts and shopping mall events in China.
