The B&LLAs 2017: The Retail winners

FatFace, John Lewis, Tesco and DFS all crowned in the Retail category.

Four major retail names walked away victorious at the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards yesterday.

The retail category focused on the commitment to the brand licensing sector within the retail space, across the high street, grocery, department stores and specialist.

Best High Street Fashion Brand Licensed Retailer Execution (sponsored by Beanstalk) was awarded to FatFace. The judges were impressed by the way the retailer embraced licensing both adult and children with its VW collections.

FatFace’s head of buying, Kate Brown, commented: “This was unexpected. It’s such a great collaboration and we’re super excited.”

Best Department Store or Mixed Retailer Brand Licensed Retailer Execution (sponsored by Happy Jackson) was picked up by John Lewis, with the retailer continuing to embrace the possibilities that brand licensing offers across many departments. Just one example of this is the collaboration with LEON.

Anna Berry, head of buying for cook and dine, said: “I’m delighted; I didn’t expect that at all.”

Best Supermarket Brand Licensed Retailer Execution (sponsored by The Smiley Company) was awarded to Tesco, with the judges especially impressed by the personalised Help for Heroes gifting range, a great product execution that raises funds for the respected charity.

A succinct head of licensing Rachel Wakley commented: “We’re chuffed to bits.”

Finally, Best Specialist Brand Licensed Retailer Execution (sponsored by Brandgenuity) was awarded to DFS – marking its second award of the afternoon. The accolade was in recognition of the huge profile DFS has put behind its Country Living, House Beautiful and French Connection licensed furniture ranges.

Merchandise director Jean Brixey commented: “It’s amazing to have DFS recognised as a great home for brands. I’m really proud to collect our second award.”
