Barbie: Big City Big Dreams eyes August cinema release

The new musical adventure will launch in cinemas in UK and Ireland on 20 August, accompanied by a range of merchandise.

Following the success of spring’s Barbie & Chelsea The Lost Birthday and last year’s musical, Barbie Princess Adventure, the latest chapter of the Barbie content story has now been revealed – Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams.

The musical adventure sees Barbie say goodbye to the familiar beaches of Malibu and hello to the hustle and bustle of New York’s Times Square.

She enrolls in a prestigious summer programme at the Handler School for Performing Arts where she meets a fellow student who also happens to be called Barbie Roberts. As the two Barbies – Barbie ‘Malibu’ Roberts and Barbie ‘Brooklyn’ Roberts – compete for the programme’s once in a lifetime Spotlight Solo, the new friends discover that competition isn’t only about winning.

Other new characters introduced will include Emmie, the childhood best friends of Barbie ‘Brooklyn’ Roberts who also happens to be a high voltage popstar; plus Rafa and his dog, Gato, who becomes BFF with both Barbies.

To complement the new movie, Mattel will be introducing a line of dolls, play-sets and accessories. A 360 marketing programme will also support the launch.

Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams will arrive in UK and Ireland cinemas on Friday 20 August.
